New Colour Cards and Autumn Markets
It's been an eventful summer I'm happy to say, particularly regarding local markets. With Banbridge, Portadown, the 7 Hills Armagh Blues Festival and Artisan Market, not to mention Lisburn Fleadh Fringe Festival, I have been kept busy raising my profile both online and in person, as well as selling a few cards and prints along the way.
There are more markets to come in Dromore on the 3rd October at 10am till 3pm , as well as a return to Armagh on the 30th for the Hallowe’en Shambles Yard Artisan Market at 4pm to 8pm. Then, the very next day, I will be at the Richhill Apple Harvest Fayre again in Armagh on the 31st of October.
Further details regarding the Apple Harvest Fayre as well as Banbridge and other Christmas markets, will be posted nearer the time.
Added to this is the excitement of bringing 7 brand new colour greeting cards to the online shop (as seen in the video clips above and below) not to mention literal market place.
I am also nearing completion of a few more colour greeting cards to be sent for printing very soon, including hallowe'en themed, so keep a look out for them. Again further details will be posted soon.
This latter development has been particularly pleasing on a number of levels. Not just the obvious import of colour to an otherwise monochromatic landscape, but it has been interesting to observe - at the market stall - a recurrent phenomenon of people's eyes resting on the coloured cards, observing the rest of the monochrome display and, sure enough, stepping forward for a closer look. It is at this point that I am compelled to announce, "It's all done with dots." And thus a conversation inevitably ensues...
While the cards represent something of a change in theme and direction, to my mind they continue to personify my twin interests of fantasy and humour. The fantasy in this case adopts a science fiction manifestation epitomised by the recurrent theme of the astronaut or spaceman. I am particularly taken by the image of the astronaut as something of a modern or contemporary hieroglyph or archetype for some kind of universal protagonist.
The other aspect of these images is that I can quite easily imagine them as T-Shirts, and from customer feedback, so can others. Indeed this is something I am actively exploring with some enthusiasm and I look forward to sharing updates in the not too distant future.
Stay Tuned...!
