Space Charmer
Space Charmer

As the idea of a band of musician 'little folk' began to develop so did some of the personality traits of the players. Other ideas were formed and will hopefully take shape some day soon, including a recorder player, flutist and other percussion players.

Such is the case of this illustration (shown right) although its overall theme deviated somewhat from the other characters.

Other ideas lined up for execution involve more spiritual, even mystical, yet always visually stimulating topics such as the Major Arcana, the Seasons, the Zodiac, Enneatypes and other esoteric subjects.

I would also like to explore further more linear techniques such as comic, sequential and/or non sequential illustration.

Some examples in these styles already exist and will hopefully be available in the store soon.

Lydian second Electric Lute Player

The other half of the twin lute attack Lydian, the youngest of the group, had picked up the lute before he could even fly.

A fan of that big 80s sound ‘the Lyd’ as he has come to be known, prefers a good old fashion Kramer with a couple of DiMarzio humbuckers.

Another light string user, he prefers stainless steel because he’s allergic to nickel.

Mixolydian Tambourine and Percussion

Mixo, the Lyd’s uncle, is the MC, band leader and founding member of the group.

He’s the one who organises rehearsals and gigs ensuring they get paid…! It’s his job to keep the crowd engaged and entertained with tales of the bands’ adventures on the road and in the air while the guys keep their instruments in tune and everyone’s on the same page regarding the set list

And just how do they power up these fantastic and magical instruments of theirs? I hear you say. Is it magic, is it ‘fairy dust’? is it the incredible technical prowess of legendary ethereal mixer and sound engineer DJ ‘Seelie’ Sliders? Well, it’s a little of all of the above and a lot of gaffer tape and crossed fingers. Their preferred means of power and transmission is not unlike a miniature version of Tesla’s Wardenclyffe Tower for wireless transmission. In fact the family legend has it that Mixolydian’s own mother and father were the spritely familiars that assisted auld Nikola Tesla’s original design. A nice chap, well-dressed by all accounts, if a little eccentric - even for the little folk.

As mentioned I'm rather keen to expand the 'line-up' by an additional fey player or two, like a recorder, stand-up bass or even a snare or some other percussion player. However there are other ideas that beckon my attention and I'm more interested at exploring some of these for the time being and besides, a change is as good as a rest...
